This song was called “My Despair” for a few months and it basically chronicles my depression as it sneaks up on me. This is what used to cause me to drink and now I have to deal with it. I’ve done a lot of work with a type of therapy called EMDR and Voice Dialogue. In these treatments, you actually learn to identify parts of your inner psyche and the roles they play. In my head, there are countless characters that push me to “keep busy” rather than be in the moment. Two of these get mentioned here (the doctor, the general) and how I wish they would leave me alone and let me present. Meditation helps, I do that now too.
